Homework Policy

I believe that homework is an important key for reinforcement or enrichment of class work. Therefore, your child will have homework on Monday through Thursday nights.

The homework that is assigned will be reviewed in class, and your child should be able to do most of the work independently. It is fine to help your child with her/his work, but please notify me if your child is having difficulty with a particular concept. This way, further assistance can be provided during the school day. Daily homework should not take more than thirty minutes to complete. If your child is taking much longer while focused, please notify me immediately.

So that we may work together for the good of the children, the following is suggested:

1.     All word lists, when assigned should be read to an adult and signed.

2.     Please sign all homework, and feel free to write notes about any concerns that you may have.

3.     Your childs homework folder and agenda book will go home at the end of each school day containing work and notices for that day. Please review the contents of this folder and agenda book. All work that is completed should be kept at home and the folder should be returned to school each day.

4.     Please allow 15-30 minutes a night to read to your child or have your child read to you. By reading together, this will enhance their appreciation of literature, expand vocabulary, and improve reading skills! We all will take part in a "readerly" and "writerly" life. We are all readers and writers for life!

A child is allowed to miss his or her homework 3 times within a marking period. Missed homework will be expected to be made up. The children will be given an extra day if needed and will still be given full credit for assignments. If your child does not miss any homework assignments, he or she will receive an excellent or a "4" on the report card. If homework is missed three times (and not made up) your child will receive a satisfactory or a "3" on the report card. In the event that homework is missed four or more times, an unsatisfactory grade will be given.

Thank you for your support and cooperation, and I look forward to the school year ahead of us.
